Russian Adoption

What you Should Know About Domestic Adoption Vs. International Adoption

Adoption demands major crucial and critical decisions. Adoption is far from owning a pet in which you can easily choose from what breed you want your pet to come. When adopting a child, there are many considerations that you will need to think of before deciding to proceed with an actual adoption process.

Among the very first things that you will have to consider is whether you want to have a domestic adoption or an international adoption. If you as a foster parent decide to have an adoption of an American child or a child born abroad but is a U.S. citizen, then you are into a domestic adoption. If you want to have a child from other countries, for example, you are considering an adoption from Russia, then it is an international adoption. Pitting domestic US adoption versus international adoption, we will find advantages and disadvantages for both sides.

Comparison of Children for Adoption

Although children of various ages are available to be adopted in both international and domestic adoptions, the availability according to age bracket varies. Chances of adopting newborns and infants are higher in domestic adoptions. If you want to adopt a baby, you might want to settle for domestic adoption. Those waiting to be adopted in international adoptions are mostly kids already, from toddlers up. The international adoption process is longer, and if you want a foreign baby, s/he may be a toddler already by the time the adoption is completed.

Health Background of the Children

Babies born in the US have available medical records. This is due to the fact that most mothers in the US obtain medical services. For babies from other countries, medical records may be scarce, and their health background may be a little trivial. Information about health issues concerning the child may also be limited. This condition is a result of mothers in host countries having no or limited records in the hospitals because of not having prenatal check up.
